Anyone with a beloved pet will probably tell you that animals are naturally psychic & connected to their people, and now science may finally be getting on board with this popular notion...

According to the Daily Mail, a Cambridge scientist, Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, believes we have only seen the beginning of animal's telepathic powers & goes on to say that harnessing such gifts could potentially save many human lives...

"By paying attention to unusual animal behaviour, earthquake and tsunami warning systems might be feasible in parts of the world that are at risk from these disasters."

This is something that I'd be willing to bet indigenous cultures & witchy folk have been doing for thousands of years.

Having lived most of my life along California's infamous San Andreas fault, I can assure you that my cats always act a little spooked right before an earthquake or even the occasional clap of thunder.

I've also heard of dogs that have detected cancer in their people, leading to treatment before the problem got too out of hand. Of course, such phenomenon could be attributed to a keener sense of smell or a more finely tuned sense of motion, but still... it's pretty cool!

I LOVE & am fascinated by tarot cards & hope to have a substantial collection one day. As it is, I've only got four decks, including one that should be arriving in the mail this afternoon (happy birthday to me!), and that's because I like to spend a long time getting to know each deck before I move onto another.

Now, somehow that has extended to include an interest in vintage playing cards & this deck that I just came across on Etsy is screaming out to me, "Take me home!!!" Unfortunately, I had to give a shout back that I'm all out of spending money, but I did promise I'd give them some love here on my blog. Aren't they cool?

I started dabbling in raw foods last summer and had a couple of wonderful months of being somewhere around 80% raw-vegan most days. I felt so energetic, remarkably light & high that I am surprised at myself for being unable to maintain longer than one measly season. I blame the fall. And winter! It's easy to go raw in warm weather, when you're actually craving something fresh and light like fruit or salad, but the real trick is making it happen when you've got a serious case of the cozies...

Nathalie Lussier aka the Raw Foods Witch is an adorable gal with some helpful cold weather tips for all you hungry raw foodies out there...

Tips For Eating Raw In The Winter:

- Take your food out of the refrigerator ahead of time, so it can warm to room temperature.

- Freeze fruits and vegetables in the summer for use during the winter. You can then put these in smoothies or to make raw ice creams. (If you like to eat ice cream in the cold months, that is!)

- Warm raw soups in your dehydrator or on your stove, as long as it’s below 118F it’s still considered raw!

- Make dehydrated treats that remind you of your favorite winter time snacks, they will be warm and gooey when they come out of the dehydrator.

- If you find yourself eating more in the winter, simply up your exercise. We all want to just curl up on the couch, but it can be revitalizing to move your body instead.

- If being all raw is too hard or expensive in the winter, revert to raw until dinner, while choosing healthy cooked alternatives for your last meal of the day.

Acacia House & Every Day Kitchen Witchery : Garlic Almond Bacon Spinach

GARLiC ALMOND BACON SPiNACH

1 bag of organic frozen spinach
2 handfuls of raw almonds
1 clove of garlic crushed and sliced into small strips
2 pieces of cruelty free applewood smoked bacon

1. Slice bacon into 1/2 inch strips & heat in a skillet on low, pushing around with a spoon, until the bottom of the pan is oily & the bacon fat turns opaque 2. Add the garlic and almonds and lightly saute for a couple of minutes 3. Toss in the spinach and mix thoroughly just until hot 4. Serve immediately

I have no inkling of the nutritional value or fat & calorie content of this dish, as I just made it up using random ingredients found in my kitchen the other day. I do know that it tastes amazing & is a great way to get some iron in your blood. The measurements listed are mere suggestions, as I believe that going by feel & taste is the best way to conjure up some culinary magic of your own. So please, modify freely & ENJOY!

GOiNG GiNGER : HOMEMADE HENNA HAiR DYE
To make a basic mix that can add reddish gold highlights to both red and brown hair- 1. mix two parts plain powdered henna with one part chamomile henna powder 2. Add just enough boiling water to create a thick paste 3. Add a tablespoon of olive oil & a tablespoon of vinegar to the mix 3. Let the mix get warm and apply to your hair (wear gloves) 4. Let the mix sit on your hair for 30 minutes up to two hours (experiment to get the exact color you want) 5. Rinse your hair until clean of the mix
